Magazine survey

Written by Guy Bowers Tuesday, 08 May 2012 00:00 - ( Industry Insider )

Our books and magazines are firmly historical, but that doesn't mean we don't look to the future. In fact, we've been toying with ideas for new magazines for quite a while now. The problem is always picking a topic. Obviously, we want to launch a new magazine that will be of interest to as many readers as possible. To that end, we have designed a short and simple survey. We'd be very grateful if you could fill it out and help us design our (potential) new magazine. In return, we're raffling off five one-year paper subscriptions and ten one-year digital subscriptions for the magazine of your choice (Ancient Warfare, Medieval Warfare or Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy). All you have to do is complete the survey and leave us your e-mail address (don't worry, we won't use it for anything). This survey is open to anyone who wants to participate, so please tell all of your friends! The more feedback we can get, the better. You can send in your answers until June 15th. Take the survey now and tell us what kind of new military history magazine you'd like to see.

WSS at Salute

Written by Christy Beall Wednesday, 04 April 2012 13:54 - ( Events & Tournaments )

While it's already been announced in issue 59 and our online newsletter, I wanted to remind everyone that Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy is going to be at Salute 2012. You can find us in booth TA06. We'll have all available copies of WSS for sale in our booth, plus a selection of our other magazines, Ancient Warfare and Medieval Warfare. We're also offering issue 60 early to all Salute attendees - if you aren't going, you'll have to wait a week to get your copy! If you have a subscription, you can pick it up the latest issue for free. You can also place orders with us before the show and pick them up there - a great way to save on shipping. Just let us know in advance. Of course, there will be plenty of Salute-only offers and discounts available too. Even if you don't want to shop, we'd love for you to stop by to chat with us - all the magazine editors will be there, along with at least one regular contributor. We look forward to seeing you there!

I Heart/Hate WSS Winners

Written by Christy Beall Tuesday, 27 March 2012 12:03 - ( Events & Tournaments )

Since the entry deadline for our I Heart/Hate WSS contest is now passed, we're very pleased to announce the winners. We received a lot of great ideas and feedback from everyone who entered. We really appreciate all of your contributions. As a reminder, we had two prizes, with winners chosen at random. Congratulations to Phil, who won the copy of SPQR: Volume II The Great Battles of History. Also many congrats to Carl, who is receiving one of Battleflag's new laser cut western buildings with decals. We'll be sending the prizes out to both Carl and Phil very soon. Keep an eye out for our next contest, which is open to everyone and will be announced in the pages of WSS 60. There are even more great prizes and we're making the contest a lot easier this time!

I Heart/Hate WSS Contest

Written by Christy Beall Thursday, 01 March 2012 11:46 - ( Events & Tournaments )

For those of you who don't subscribe to our newsletter, we'd like to let you know about a new contest we're running that's open to all. As we're always trying to get more feedback from our readers regarding Wargames, Soldiers & Strategy, we thought a contest would be the perfect way to stimulate responses. There are two prizes being given away. The first is a complete edition of the boardgame SPQR: Volume II The Great Battles of History. Yes, it's the whole thing with scenarios included, so a really valuable bit of loot! The second prize is one of the unassembled kits from Battleflag's new line of laser-cut western buildings with decals. For more information, have a look at their site. Incidentally, we'll be giving away more goodies from Battleflag in issue 60, so keep an eye out for that.

Written by Christy Beall Thursday, 24 November 2011 13:24 - ( New Products & Releases )

When we took over WSS, several free online PDF rulesets which were available from the original publisher became unavailable. We have now acquired these missing files and are offering them for download on our site. You can find the free rules for Quatre-bras and Operation Sea Lion, from issues 47 and 49 respectively, in our online extras section.

Issue 57 Indian Mutiny article free PDF

Written by Christy Beall Tuesday, 08 November 2011 09:10 - ( New Products & Releases )

We are now offering the article by Jon and Diane Sutherland about the Indian Mutiny from WSS 57 as a free PDF. Due to a problem in our layout, a small portion of the text was hidden by an image, making it unreadable. To compensate for our mistake, this article is now available to everyone on our online extras page. For digital subscribers, you can redownload a corrected version of the entire WSS 57 PDF from our webshop.

Currency gremlin

Written by Jasper Oorthuys Tuesday, 08 November 2011 09:10 - ( New Products & Releases )

Despite having been designed by master sculptor Richard Ansell, the price of a Fife and Drum Miniatures' figure is only USD 1.80 each, instead of GBP 1.80 as erroneously reported in WSS 57. We apologize to Jim Purky for this mistake!

Crisis 2011 and WS&S 57 in UK stores

Written by Guy Bowers Tuesday, 01 November 2011 15:01 - ( New Products & Releases )

Wargames, Soldiers and Strategy issue 57 is now out in the UK. You can now buy it from most WH Smiths and all good independent stockists. Those readers in the United States and Canada will have to wait a little longer, another month before you can pick up your copies in US bookstores.

If you are in Antwerp this Saturday, the 5th of November, you can meet the Karwansaray team and also see our magnificent gangster table and models used in issue 57. Come have a chat and discuss with us our latest projects including Project Platoon and future issues. Christy is promising her first figures painted up for display at Crisis. Should be good. See you there!
